Ondo Poll: Again, AD Raises the Alarm over Plan to Clampdown on Leaders

James Sowole in Akure
The Alliance for Democracy (AD) Ondo State yesterday reiterated the alarm it raised early this week alleging that there was a secret plot by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to effect arrest of  some leaders of the AD ahead of the Saturday poll.

A chieftain of the party, Mr. Tolu Bbaleye, who raised the alarm yesterday while speaking with journalists,  said the plot was being coordinated by a South-west governor and a former governor of Ekiti State.

Babaleye at the press conference said the plot was perfected in Akure on Saturday after the APC grand finale attended by President Muhammadu Buhari on the impending electoral battle.

He said the plan was to arrest key leaders of the party, including the DG of Oke’s campaign outfit and incarcerate them till after the election so that the APC can perfect its rigging plan.
He said Buhari as a democrat shouldn’t allow desperadoes, who are hiding under presidential seal to commit electoral heist to implicate his government, calling on the APC-led federal government to rein in their members to forestall the country’s democracy from being truncated.ts the wishes of the people.

“Their game plan is to arrest these key leaders, including those perceived to be giving tacit supports to Oke and take them to Abuja for prosecution to destabilize our well-oiled and well organized campaign outfit that has become a hurricane blowing across Ondo
State.

“The people’s power is mightier than any power. The coalition of evil forces against Oke, who is now the God and people’s candidate will fail. It is sad that those who had been victims of electoral rigging in the past are now constituting themselves as the troublers of Israel and the full wrath of God awaits them”, he said.

Reacting to the allegation, the Secretary, Communication of Akeredolu Campaign Organisation, Kunle Adebayo described the statement as baseless and reckless.

“It is coming from the mentality of a loser who is already fabricating justification for his loss.
It is also an evidence of insecurity, desperation and frustration occasioned by very successful and highly revealing Grand rally personally led President Buhari in Akure last Saturday.

“Indeed, it is clear that Oke is merely rehearsing his own confirmed plans to attack key leaders of our party who have been pencilled as stumbling blocks to their macabre plans for the Saturday election.
Oke must know that no one is listening or believing his alarmist vituperations because such an act is only consistent with his own character inconsistencies”, he said.
