Buhari, Saraki Mourn Former Minister, Gbadamosi

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate President, Dr.Bukola Saraki, have commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State on the passing of former Minister of National Planning, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi.

The president, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, also extended condolences to all family members, friends and professional colleagues of the late acclaimed  economist, eminent industrialist, playwright and promoter of arts and culture.

He urged them to be consoled by the fact that Gbadamosi’s contributions in these diverse fields of life would be appreciated for a long time.

The president also said he believed that the nation would remain ever grateful for  the meritorious and exemplary roles  Gbadamosi played not only as a minister, but also  as a former chairman of the Bank of Industry (BoI) and the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).

“There is no doubting the fact that the economic development of Nigeria was always uppermost in his mind,” the president reminisced about the ex-development expert.
Buhari praysed that the almighty God would grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest, and comfort his family.

On his part, Saraki described the late former Minister as a multi-talented economist and industrialist who was also an arts activist in his life time.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, said the late Gbadamosi would be remembered for his immense contributions to the socio-political development of the country in both public and private sectors.
He noted that Gbadamosi was a man of immense capacity who showcased his rich intellect through the many positions he occupied.

“His tour of duty included but not limited to his appointment at barely 23 years of age, as a commissioner for Economic Development in Lagos State in the 60s and Chairman of several private companies and government agencies which included but not limited to Ragolis Water Ltd., AIICO Pension Managers, Lucky Fibres Nig. Plc, Bank of Industry and Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA). He was also a playwright and an avid art collector.

“There goes Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi – a man of many parts who died in active service, his status as a septuagenarian notwithstanding. Nothing best exemplifies his dynamism and willingness to serve than his appointment as a co-chairman of the Lagos @50 Planning Committee in his 70s,” Saraki stated.
