Police Intercept Armed Robbery Gang, Arrest One

The Lagos State Police Command, yesterday intercepted a three-man armed robbery gang who were on their way to rob a businessman at the Idumota area of the state.

The anti-crime squad was said to have been alerted by the suspicious movement of the gang and when accosted, two of them fled while one, 29-year-old Fasola Usman was arrested.
Upon an on-the-spot search, the police discovered and further recovered a locally made double barrel gun with some charms.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, said efforts are on to catch the fleeing gang members.
She said: “A team of anti crime mine reported that while on patrol along Idumota axis, three men were seen on a suspicious movement.

“While being accosted, two escaped, while one Usman Fasola, aged 29 years of no 169 Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos Island, was arrested and searched.
“A locally made double barrel gun with charms were concealed in a black polythene bag was recovered from him.

“He confessed that they were on their way to rob a businessman at Idumota. He said most of the said petty robbery around the area were mostly perpetrated by their gang.
“He also confessed to be their armourer. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
“The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.

“This is just as the command has reassured the public that criminals will not be allowed to perpetrate their evil deeds in the state especially during this festive period.”
