Dangote Group of Companies is soon to embark on the installation of a Solar Energy Plant in Kano, following adequate gas supply to generate electricity in the country.
Executive Director, Stakeholders Management and Corporate Communications of the Group, Alhaji Mansur Ahmed, stated this during an interactive session journalists in Kano on the activities of Dangote Group to enhance the economic development of the country.
Ahmed further assured that when those projects come on board, it will adequately address incessant power outage and stabilise the industries in the country to full capacity.
According to him, the company is diversifying into the project in order to reduce dependence on electricity supply from Kainji Dam, which largely depends on gas to power the plants.
Ahmed also expressed optimism that when the project is completed, it will be extended to factories on commercial basis, so as address the current erratic power supply in the country.
The Execute Director also disclosed that Dangote Group is constructing a Gas pipeline, to convey about 3 billion cubic tonnes of gas per year to sub-Saharan Africa and beyond to power electricity generating plants.
”Unavailability of gas supply in the country is responsible for the epileptic power supply in the country, hence the plan to diversify into that area, so as to power electricity plants, so as to keep the factories running at installed capacity.”
Ahmed disclosed that Dangote Group also diversified into sugar production in order to halt further importation of sugar from Brazil, adding that the conglomerate will continue to expand its operations until sugar importation is stopped completely in the country.
”We have to date acquired several acres of land from across the country in order to expand sugar plantation, as well as build additional sugar refining capacity to be self-sufficient.
In order to flood the market with food, Dangote Group, the Executive Director further disclosed is diversifying to rice and wheat, so as to accelerate food production in the entire country.
Ahmed said Dangote Group is currently building a refinery in Ibeju in Lekki area of Lagos, adding that when completed, it would be one of the largest refineries in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the largest in Nigeria, which will produce 655,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
