DAAR, Sun, Vanguard, Five Others in Q’finals

Despite losing 5-2 to Federal Information Chapel in the last Group D match of the ongoing football event of this year’s Med-View/NUJ Media Games, DAAR Communications and seven others have qualified for the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal matches which will hold today, Thursday, October 27 at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos will see the eight qualified chapels battling for the semifinal tickets.

In the first quarterfinal match, defending champions, Lagos Information Chapel will ambush Correspondents Chapel while The Sun Newspapers will tackle DAAR Communications Chapel.

In the third quarterfinal match, Business Plus Magazine Chapel will trade tackles with Voice of Nigeria (VON) while the last quarterfinal match will be between Federal Information Chapel and Vanguard Newspaper.

Chairman of Lagos Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), organisers of the event, ’Deji Elumoye said with the standard of the matches played so far, the quarterfinals would be keenly contested as all the qualified teams are capable of progressing to the semifinals and winning the trophy.

“With what I saw of the players in the matches already decided, all the qualified teams for the quarterfinals are good enough to win the trophy.

“The matches would be keenly contested and I hope the players would live up to expectations they’ve exhibited since the Games commenced on Monday.

The semifinal matches earlier scheduled to hold today immediately after the quarterfinals would not hold tomorrow, Friday, October 28 at the same venue.

Meanwhile, hostilities in the scrabble, chess, ayo, draught will begin today at the Secretariat of the Lagos State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
