Global Internet Television service provider, Netflix and Nigeria’s 4G LTE broadband service provider, Spectranet, have announced plans for the deployment of one of the first dedicated Netflix servers in Africa.

The high capacity server would hold the entire Netflix content library in Lagos, providing Spectranet’s customers with the best possible video streaming performance which offers faster delivery in a cost effective way.

Announcing the plan at a media briefing in Lagos recently, Spectranet’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. David Venn, said Netflix collaborated with Spectranet on the planned deployment based on Spectranet’s track records in providing real 4GLTE broadband services to Nigerians.

He said the new partnership would enable Spectranet’s customers to enjoy best TV experience available in the country, adding that the unlimited experience would also afford them the opportunity to enjoy TV series and films when, how and where they want, with seamless, instant access across TVs, tablets, smartphones, game consoles and computers.

He said: “Since we focus on providing families with an excellent and affordable broadband service, this partnership with Netflix means that our customers will be able to enjoy the very best TV experience available in Nigeria. We are honoured that Netflix has selected Spectranet for one of its first deployments in Africa and the only one in West Africa.”

Netflix offers a new way of watching TV, giving its members the ability to enjoy TV series and films when, how and where they want with seamless, instant access across TVs, tablets, smartphones, game consoles and computers. Netflix offers a great entertainment experience with many titles available in high-definition with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound and some in Ultra HD 4K and HDR, Venn said.

According to him, “With fast.com, a simple-to-use website that helps people see how fast their Internet connection is, whether on mobile or broadband – Netflix offers an independent tool that consumers can use for greater insight and control of their Internet service. People in Nigeria can try Netflix for free for one month by signing up at www.netflix.com.”

Venn further stated that Netflix’s laudable innovations have changed how consumers watch television across the world and that the subscribers’ appetite for its many flavoured fare has been very strong, adding that within the space of one year, Netflix subscription service expanded from 60 countries to a total of over 190 and well over 83 million subscribers, including Nigeria.

He said: “Netflix is the world’s leading internet television network that has been around since 1997. The online streaming platform first kicked off as a DVD-by-mail business located at Los Gatos in California. Within the space of one year, Netflix subscription service expanded from 60 countries to a total of over 190. It has well over 83 million subscribers, including Nigeria.”
Head Marketing at Spectranet, Mr. Mike Ogor, said: “The company uses the latest 4GLTE technology to deliver fast and affordable Internet service to families and businesses across the country, saying that its service has covered Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan and Port-Harcourt within a very short period.”

Ogor added that Netflix partnered Spectranet 4G LTE to provide both customers with the best possible video streaming experience in Nigeria to reshape both supply and demand for TV and craving for fast, reliable and cheap internet service to complement Netflix quality service.
“Streaming of Netflix shows a technology that did not exist a decade ago. This technology now accounts for 35 per cent of peak internet traffic across various countries where Netflix operates. This shift is reshaping both supply and demand for TV and craving for fast, reliable and cheap internet service to complement Netflix quality service,” Ogor said.
