Unilever Committed to the Growth of the Nigerian Economy

As part of its commitment to continually invest in Nigeria, Unilever’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, Marc Engel, has reiterated the company’s pledge to enhance local manufacturing in Nigeria.

He said this during his visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Overseas Affairs and Investment; Prof. Ademola Abass, accompanied by the management team of the company.

Marc mentioned that the company which has been operating in Nigeria for over 90 years, would continue to invest in the country, albeit the prevailing economic challenges.
“Nigeria is strategic to our business operations. This is why we remain committed to the country’s socio-economic development. We currently operate two manufacturing hubs in Nigeria, and we are already taking actions to increase our local manufacturing capacity.

“These ongoing investments will not only provide addittonal employment opportunities for Nigerians, but will deliver further economic value through the development of a sustainable supply chain structure consisting of many local manufacturers”, he said.

In his response, Prof. Abass, commended the company for its long-serving history in Nigeria, and promised that the government would support Unilever in their expansion plan.

He further stated that the office of Overseas Affairs and Investment will continually perform its role as a one stop shop for investment in Lagos State, and ensure an ease of doing business in Nigeria.

He said, “Our aim is to provide the enabling environment to help businesses in Nigeria, hence we want to assure you of our connuous support in this regard as the present administration is passionate about the economic development of the state through foreign direct investment (FDI).”
