Hammed Shittu in Ilorin
A new pressure group, Kwara Political Action Group has advised Kwarans both at home and Abroad to forget their political differences and come together in the bid to savage the state from all the impediments that had continued to inhibit her development and growth.
The Convener of the group, Dr. Abdulmumin Ajia made the submission in Ilorin on Saturday during the inauguration of the group and opening of its state ofice located along Offa road, Dan Madami Estate, Adewole, Ilorin, the state capital.
According to him, “Today, we are drawing a line in the sand and taking an important first step towards the successful institutionalization of democracy in Kwara state through a people-driven, participatory and inclusive decision making organization such as we are unveiling today”.
He said, “Organizing for Kwara Political Action Group is opened to all Kwarans from all walks of life. We are non partisan and ready to work with anyone from any or no political background.
“Our only litmus test is that such individuals must share our belief in regime change in Kwara through a peaceful democratic means”.
He added, “We have set for ourselves the ambitious goal of working with every man and woman of conscience in Kwara towards organizing for change.
“We hope that when we celebrate Kwara’s 52nd anniversary that we do so under a new government sworn to uphold and preserve our commonwealth. I hereby open this office to the glory of God and for service to humanity”.
Ajia who was ably represented at the occasion by the state Director of the organization, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim noted further that, “It is not in doubt that Kwara State is among states in Nigeria that is suffering from acute infrastructure and various decay.”
According to him, “The present government of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has conceded to this poor infrastructural state when he acknowledged during the establishment of the Kwara Infrastructure Fund, that the state has an infrastructure gap of N225bn.
“What he didn’t say was that when adjusted for inflation, our infrastructure deficiency will be twice the 225 billion Naira figure.”
Ajia, who urged the Kwarans to come together in order to move the state forward, however said that, such development would assist the state to take her rightful position in the task of accelerating the socio economic development of the state.
