Togo, Ghana to Participate in Ochei Wheelchair Basketball Competition

Ghana and Togo have confirmed their participation in the forthcoming 6th Victor Ochei Wheelchair Basketball International competition holding between October 3-8, at the Molade Okoya Indoor Sport hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Also expected at the annual event being sponsored by the former Speaker House of Assembly, Delta State, Victor Ochei is Republic of Benin.

According to the President of the Wheelchair Basketball

Federation of Nigeria, (WBFN), Bukola Olopade, all states of the federation will participate in the competition aimed at preparing the national team for an international

championship later in the year and allow for discovery of new players for the junior and senior teams.

 He also disclosed that para military were expected to present

their team for the competition as well as private wheelchair

 basketball teams.

Olopade said, “I can confirm the participation of three

neighbouring countries for this year’s edition of Sir Victor Ochei competition and this is an indication that the game is growing and we in the board will continue to do our best to ensure that the game gets better and appreciated.

We are more concern about the special athletes hence the determination to take wheelchair basketball to greater heights,” he said.

The Vice president of the federation in Africa however

 expressed appreciation to the sponsor for the past six

years, saying, “despite leaving office as Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Ochei still sponsor the competition, this is commendable because hardly will you see anybody after leaving public office to continue sponsorship of any competition, we are a grateful to him and also called in others like him to help in the development of special sports and special athletes, “Olopade said.
