Delta Council Inaugurates Mobile Court

Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. John Nani, has inaugurated the Mobile Court and Environmental Task Force on Waste Management for Oshimili South Local Government Area with a charge for them to operate within the ambit of the enabling laws and bylaws under the State, LGA and Waste Management Board laws.

Oshimili South is a strategic local government area in the state because it includes much of Asaba metropolis, the Delta State capital, which constitutes a gateway into the state. Inaugurating the task force, which will ensure the effective management of waste and disposal in the local government area, Nani charged them to work within the enabling laws and bylaws as contained in State’s, LGA’s and Waste Management Board’s existing laws.

The commissioner warned the task force against abuse of their powers by creating their own or individual laws but work within the ambit of the State Waste Management Laws. Only those who contravene the laws should be arrested by law enforcement agents and duly charged to court, adding however that only the magistrates have the final say on whether the persons arrested had contravened the state waste management law or not.
