Ondo Guber: APC Appeal Panel Report Ready

Onyebuchi in Abuja

The Appeal Panel Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ondo State governorship primary election will conclude sitting and submit its report within the week.

The committee, which is probing the governorship primary that produced Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), sat all through the Sallah holiday considering the allegations raised by three of the 24 APC aspirants.

THISDAY gathered that some of the aspirants who contested the governorship ticket of the APC had petitioned the Appeal Panel Committee headed by Mrs. Helen Bendega demanding the cancelation of the result of the primaries.
Among those who submitted their petitions to the panel alleging irregularities in the primaries are Chief Olusola Oke, Senator Ajayi Borofice and Segun Abraham.

Another aspirant who also submitted their petition to the APC Appeal panel Akinwale Akingbade, alleged in his petition that fake delegates list was used during the primaries among other irregularities. Akingbade, said that the names of the people on the delegate list were unknown to the party, wheras the real delegates were left out.
Akingbade maintained that the party should be held responsible for the distortions on the delegate lists.

While Abraham came second in the primaries, Oke came third and Borofice took the fourth position in the primaries contested by 24 aspirants.

The national leadership of the APC has not canceled any of its primaries in the past, but investigation emerged that there is high pressure on the leadership for the primaries to be annulled.

One of the contentious issues in the Ondo primary is the alleged irregularities in the delegates list submitted by the National Working Committee of APC.

However the National Organising Secretary of APC, Senator Osita Izunaso, has stated that it would be wrong for the party to make any statement when the Appeal Panel had not submitted its report.

According to him, any statement made by the national leadership of the party while awaiting the reports of the committee may jeopardise the outcome of the committee’s sitting.

A member of the appeal committee who spoke but did not want his name mentioned, confirmed that it has almost considered all the petitions and would submit report this week.
