Hard Times Drove Me into Stealing to Bury My Father, Suspect Explains

Two armed robbery suspects paraded by the Diepartment of State Services (DSS) in Awka, Anambra State, tuesday blamed the hard times currently being faced by Nigerians as the motivation for delving into crime.

One of the suspects, Uche Ezeugo, said he was forced into robbery to make some money to enable him give his father a befitting burial, adding that stealing is not in his lineage.
“I’m not a natural thief. It’s this Buhari hard condition that led me into this temptation,” he said.

The suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing some laptops.
His accomplice, Somadina, blamed his action on hunger and starvation.
The two, in their 20s, from Aguluezechukwu in Aguata council area of the state, were apprehended by the DSS at Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.

While confessing to the crime, the suspects said it was their first time and pleaded for leniency, promising to desist from such acts in the future.

The state Commissioner of police, Mr. Sam Okaula, who confirmed their arrest lauded the men and officers of DSS for their diligence, adding that the collaboration between the police and other security agencies in the state had helped in reducing crime and criminality.

He said the laptops were disposed by the suspects before they were arrested.
He also said that two pump action guns and one locally made rifle were recovered from the suspects who he disclosed would soon be charged to court after investigations.
