Determined to give a facelift to towns and communities in Kalabari Kingdom, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike saturday inspected on-going projects in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area as part of his administration’s agenda for the massive infrastructural improvement of the area.

Wike said the projects had been strategically selected to improve the economic and social wellbeing of the people. The projects included construction of the Abonnema Ring Road Phase Two and reconstruction of Nyemoni Grammar School, Abonnema. These were in addition to the land reclamation works.

A statement by the special assistant to the governor on electronic media, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, quoted Wike as saying, “This road is critical to the growth of the economy of this local government. That is why we have intensified the work. The Abonnema Ring Road Phase Two will also lead to most of the lands being reclaimed by the state government, so that structural development activities can commence in the new communities.”

He said the road would provide an alternative route out of the headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.
Wike said the rehabilitation of Nyemoni Grammar School was part of the phased renovation of schools in the three senatorial districts of the state in preparation for the reintroduction of boarding education. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the hostels, laboratories and classrooms of the school.

The governor assured the thousands of Abonnema residents and the Oceania communities who came to welcome him that his administration will ensure the successful completion of the land reclamation programme in the area.

He was accompanied on the inspection by former Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo; the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Harrison Iheanyichukwu; Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku; chairman of the Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board, Mr David Briggs; and a member of the House of Assembly, Mr. Major Jack.
