Man Falls from Train in Ilorin, Dies

It was a tragic situation in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital yesterday when an armless man fell from a moving train and died on the spot.

The incident, according to THISDAY checks, occurred around Post Office area, GRA, Ilorin at about 9.10am when the Lagos to Kano train took off from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) station in Ilorin.

The victim, it was gathered, was said to be traveling to Kano for the forthcoming Sallah celebration when the incident occurred.

Confirming the development to journalists in Ilorin yesterday, the Station Manager, NRC, Ilorin, Mr. Godwin Ehinziyore said the station had warned that no passenger should hang on the train.

Ehinziyore explained that the announcement had been repeatedly made in Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa languages to the effect that hanging on a moving train was risky. He said the corporation could not be held responsible for whatever happens to illegal passengers who choose to hang on the train.

He, however, said the corpse of the victim had been deposited in a mortuary in Ilorin by the officials of the corporation.
