Family of Missing Son Threatens to Sue Police

The family of Aede Osezua has threatened to sue the Nigeria Police to court over their son who was arrested during the face-off between the security agency and members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Asaba, Delta State.

Addressing a press conference, Aede’s father, Pa Oki Osezua said his son who is a motor spare parts dealer was reportedly arrested by the police in May during the protest by MASSOB members in Asaba.

According to him, five MASSOB members were reportedly killed by police and the military during the incident. Several others were arrested while scores were declared wanted by police.

Pa Osezua said upon inquiry at the police station, the family was told that their son was not in their custody but rather is among those identified and declared wanted. He further said the family later confirmed that he was not among the people killed by police during the crisis.

“Aede’s disappearance is still a mystery to us. We have checked everywhere possible but we have not found him. The police said he is not in their custody but we believe there is something they are hiding from us”, he said.
The family’s lawyer, Mr. Chukwuma Osordi said he suspects foul play with police denial of Aede’s whereabouts and has decided to formally file a suit against the police over the incident.

“The police cannot say that they don’t know his whereabouts. Our findings shows that Aede was arrested but what the police is telling us is rather that he is a wanted man. We will surely get to the root of this matter. Our first step now is to formally sue the police”, he said.
