Senate Finance Committee Chair, Others to Speak at Budget Colloquium

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, Senator John Enoh and Acting Chairman, Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Mr. Victor Muruako, are among other personalities billed to speak at this month’s budget colloquium to chart paths of reform for Nigeria’s budgetary process.

The Colloquium is conceived by OrderPaper.ng, Nigeria’s premier independent parliamentary reporting portal to address contentious issues on the budget and will bring together several top government officials from both arms of government to share ideas, perspectives and experiences on the Appropriation process as dictated by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The high-profile event billed to hold on September 26, 2016 in Abuja will attract attendance and participation from critical stakeholders in the executive, legislature (national and state assemblies), academia, media, Nigeria’s development partners, civil society organisations, community-based organisations, private sector and other stakeholders, including political operators across partisan divides.

Enoh and Muruako will join other key stakeholders on a panel to discuss the keynote address to be delivered by Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, whose paper will focus on ‘Budget as a tool for efficient executive-legislature relationship.’

Senator Enoh (PDP, Cross River Central) has served as both a state and federal legislator since 1999. He was Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation between 2011 and 2015.

Victor Muruako, who is the Acting Chairman Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has been at the forefront in championing the prudent management of the nation’s resources for years.
The Colloquium will be chaired by Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, while Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, is among other top dignitaries from the National and State Assemblies as well as Executive arm of government confirmed to attend the event.

According to the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Oke Epia, of OrderPaper.ng, “the focus on the budget at the Colloquium in September is a deliberate attempt to shift the focus on the budget towards reforms that will make the process work for the overall benefit of the majority of Nigerians.”
