Okowa Receives Interim Report on Ogbe-Ijaw-Aladja Communal Crises

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has received an interim report from the committee set up to proffer lasting solutions to the communal crises that rocked Ogbe-Ijaw and Aladja Communities.

Governor Okowa dropped the hint wednesday while addressing the press after a closed door security council meeting that lasted more than four hours at the Government House Annex, Warri.
According to the governor, the committee which has as Chairman, a foremost educationist and boundary expert, Prof. Abednego Ekoko, delivered the interim report in the presence of leaders of Ogbe-Ijaw Community in Warri South-West and Aladja community in Udu Local Government Areas of the state, including commanders of different security formations in the state.

Okowa had in May inaugurated an eight-man committee urging them to define, survey and demarcate the extent of the land in dispute between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijaw communities; and recommend actions to be taken by Delta State Government to finally resolve the Aladja and Ogbe-Ijaw crisis and sustain mutual inter-communal relations.

Briefing journalists, the governor said while security issues concerning the state were discussed, the Ogbe-Ijaw and Aladja communities were comfortable with the interim report as presented.

While stating that the committee will continue with its work, the governor expressed satisfaction that there is peace in the communities and used the occasion to urge Deltans to sustain the existing peace in the state.
