Edo PDP Seeks INEC’s Clarification on Election Postponement

Edo state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Wednesday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to come out with a clear statement on the planned shifting of the state election, describing it as a ploy to confuse the electorate.

The party also said it was surprised at the news when “we just concluded an exercise with the INEC national chairman and national commissioners about the election. They have even invited party agents to inspect sensitive materials and their movement to INEC offices”.

Chris Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of PDP, said in a statement issued in Benin City that a few days ago, Adams Oshiomhole’s APC sponsored a group of boys to demonstrate to the government house about the secretaries of the APC and the PDP asking for the postponement of the election because they were preparing for the Mathematics paper in the GCE examinations.

Against this backdrop, the party said it saw the demonstration as the handiwork of APC, but that when that failed, they resorted to this other alternative plan that there were security concerns and that the election should be postponed as they have failed in their bid to convince the electorate, and decided to use available means to buy time.

“What they must know is that their defeat cannot be avoided; it can only be delayed. Edo people have spoken and are ready to sack the APC government on Saturday”, the statement noted.
