Following the siege of miscreants who occupy several uncompleted buildings on Victoria Island, Lagos, and perpetuate crime, the police say they have intensified patrol in that area and have succeeded in arresting and jailing some of them.

The Victoria Island Divisional Police Officer, Olusegun Ajamolaya, a Chief Superintendent of Police, made this disclosure on Monday at the inauguration of Eminent Personality Forum (EPF), the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, initiative to foster police/public partnership.

Ajamolaya, who was reacting to the complaints by the EPF’s newly inaugurated members, said they had already mapped out those areas where those miscreants operate and have carried out raids of such areas.

On the issue of ‘one chance’ syndicates, who target victims along Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island, he also said their patrols have been able to curb their activities.

On the issue of uncompleted buildings occupied by miscreants, he said, “We have the map of the buildings and we have the statistics, which we have sent to the state government and they have also written to the owners of the house.

“On our side, there are foot soldiers who patrol those areas. Whenever we patrol there and we arrest anyone near the uncompleted buildings, we will arrest and take them to court and already, some of them are in jail.”

Earlier, while speaking about the EPF, Ajamolaya said its primary aim is to enhance police/public partnership as stakeholders with full participatory major roles from the eminent personalities in the division.

He said, “Another aim is to improve police community relations and ensure that the citizens are sensitized and their perception about the police changed positively as we continually build on supportive relationship between the public and the police.”
