The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) sunday said it had completed the translation of the bible into 24 different Nigerian languages.

Among the 24 different languages the Holy book was translated are: Isoko, Igala, Igede, Ebira, Yoruba, Efik, Igbo, Hausa, Nupe, Khana, Urhobo, Fulfude, Jju, Bokyi, Edo, Arabic, Tiv, Itsekiri and Kanuri.

In a statement signed BSN’s Deputy Manager, Media and Programmes, Mr. Benjamin Mordi, which was made available to the media, said BSN gives bibles free to old people’s homes and orphanages, people with visual disability, prisoners and the deaf.
The bible in the 24 different languages will be on display in the forthcoming bible marathon reading exercise which begins today in Lagos.

The 2016 bible reading campaign, BSN, said will be declared open at Shepherd’s Flock International Church, Lagos by the General Secretary of the organisation, Mr. Dare Ajiboye.
It said the one week programme will simultaneously take place in 50 different centres across the country.

The statement said: “The unique feature of this programme is that it gives the participants opportunity to read the bible aloud in their own native languages.
“Participants, irrespective of denomination, age or sex, will have a three-fold joy by participating.

“They will have the joy of reading the bible in their languages, helping someone else hear the Word of God in a new way and joining others in continuous reading of the bible.”
The statement added that BSN is a not-for-profit-making interdenominational Christian organisation that translates the bible into Nigerian languages, publishes and distributes it and also raises funds for bible work.

“So far, we have complete Bible in 24 Nigerian languages. The BSN gives bibles free to old people’s homes and orphanages, people with visual disability, prisoners, the deaf, among others,” BSN said.
