HURIWA Demands Investigation into ‘Staged’ Kuje Prison Riot

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called for an investigation of the prisoner riot that occurred recently at Kuje Prison.
The rights group  condemned in totality the extreme use of lethal force by security forces to quell alleged prison breaks which in some cases had resulted in the killing of unarmed detainees .
A statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Emmaunel‎ Onwubiko, stated that proactive measures from all quarters are needed to stop any untoward development.

According to him,“We make haste to say that these cases of alleged prison breaks or attempted prison breaks in Kuje, Abakaliki, Enugu, Lokoja must be investigated…

“As a human rights body, we condemn the extreme use of lethal force by security forces to quell alleged prison breaks which in some cases have resulted in the killing of unarmed detainees in such prison facilities like that of Abakaliki amongst others.
