In a bid to curb the rising trend of kidnapping targeted at well to do Nigerians, as well as champion community policing, the Idimu Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command has kick-started the Eminent Persons Forum (EPF).
The EPF was introduced by the acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and was launched first by the Idimu Police Division, where they inducted some eminent personalities in the community into the forum.
Members of the EPF inaugurated at the event were drawn from a crop of retired policemen, military officers, senior civil servants and the media community.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, who graced the occasion to launch the forum and also commission the community Multi-Purpose Hall, a project initiated by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Fayomi Solomon Adebayo, also urged residents of Idimu, Alimosho Local Council area of the state, to flush out criminals who live among them.
While inaugurating the EPF to champion community policing as directed by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim idris, Owoseni urged Idimu residents to continue to support the police.
“I plead with you not to condemn every police officer because of the misconduct of the few ones. Most police officers are highly disciplined and professional in discharging their duties.
“It is not all policemen that are bad. An average policeman is a product of you our mothers and fathers; therefore train them well so that they can become good police officers when they are recruited into the police,” he said.
Owoseni also frowned upon the vandalism of government’s critical infrastructure within their vicinity, urging the eminent people and Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to provide useful information to the police whenever they notice strange movement in the community.
