VC Versus Bursar: Violent Clashes Erupt in Unical

Pandemonium broke out in the University of Calabar (Unical) on Monday morning following the eruption of violent clashes between some aggrieved workers of the institution and a section of students population.

According to information gathered in the institution, the clash between the workers and the students could be described as the fallout of the misunderstanding between the management of the university under the headship ,Professor Zana Akpagu,and the office of bursar, headed by Mr. Peter Agi.

The protesters who gathered early in the morning in the main campus of the school had barely commence their peaceful protest when a group of students pounced of the protesting workers and attacked them with dangerous weapons.

In the course of attacking the protesting workers who were already marching towards the senate building, the students attacked a crew of the African Independent Television (AIT),injuring the cameraman and destroyed the companies camera in the process.

The protesting workers were however chanting anti-bursar slogans while marching towards the senate building.

The aggrieved were allegedly protesting against the bursar who is generally considered to be a stickler to due process.

The staff were protesting mounting financial claims and entitlements that are allegedly trapped in the office of the bursar who is believed to be a stickler to due process and application of approved financial standard in the disbursement of funds.
