The federal government and the government of the United States (US) on Monday began discussion on Joint Country Action Plan (JCAP), aimed at improving Nigeria’s security governance initiative (SGI), and associated challenges.
At the meeting between top security officials of both countries in Abuja, held at the instance of the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzu, the U.S
Deputy Chief of Mission to Nigeria, Mr. Alan Tousignant, expressed optimism that the new road map will improve Nigeria’s security governance challenges.
According to him, the programme is principally geared towards identifying the best way to manage the various security actors and stakeholders so that the country can effectively deliver justice and security to its citizens.
He admitted that the programme is not a training programme nor is it meant to support Nigeria with military equipment.
He said the joint action plan will focus on enhancing the ministry of interior on emergency planning and coordination, supporting the Defence ministry on its areas of needs identification, procurement acquisition, procedures and processes, adding, to develop a civilian security plan for the North-east.
