NDLEA Seizes 1,126.9kg of Cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kogi State Command yesterday seized 1,126.9kg of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) worth over N5 million along Kabba-Junction on Lokoja-Abuja highway.
The state Commander, Alhaji Idris Bello, who disclosed this while parading the suspect, a truck driver, Ismaila Abdullahi and three others before journalists, said the illicit drug was concealed in 100 big bags.

Bello said Abdullahi who claimed to be conveying 100 bags of the illicit drug from Uromi in Edo State to Kaduna for one Ibrahim, was arrested in the early hours of yesterday along Kabba-Junction on Lokoja-Abuja highway. The driver, according to Bello, attracted the attention of NDLEA patrol team when he took a U-Turn on the highway in the bid to escape with the drugs having been tipped by a Volkswagen Sharon space bus ahead of him. According to the commander, Abdullahi and his passenger later abandoned the vehicle and ran into the bush when they could no longer cope with the hot pursuit from the NDLEA operatives but he (the driver) was caught while the passenger escaped. The suspect Abdullahi while speaking with journalists said he had been doing business with Ibrahim for long but regretted that Ibrahim played a fast one on him this time around.

He added that Ibrahim promised to pay him N250,000 on successfully delivering the “weeds” to its destination in Kaduna and gave him advance payment of N20,000 for fuelling. Also paraded was Saidu Mohammed Bello alias “Wazobia”, a drug seller at Koton-Karfe market, arrested with 9kg of cannabis on August 4, who said he was into cannabis business to raise money for his ambition to contest the governorship seat of Kogi State. On what becomes of his ambition now that he has been caught, Wazobia, said he was not happy that it turned out this way but was still hopeful, adding “if it is the will of God, I will still make it.” Also paraded was Osuporu Wale from Offa in Kwara, nabbed with 200 grams of cannabis on July 31, at Zango-Ofere and Wale Adebisi, a trained tailor who is yet to do his freedom, arrested with seven kg of cannabis on August 7, at Akutupa all in Kabba-Bunu Local Government. The NDLEA commander appealed to the state government to assist the command with logistics especially vehicles to carry out the task of ridding the society free of illicit drugs and urged community vigilance groups to assist the agency with information.
