Dream Team VI for Q’final Despite Colombia Loss

  • Reigning champions Mexico knocked out

Colombia brought Nigeria’s Dream Team VI back to reality from their fairytale run at the ongoing men’s football tournament of the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil with a deserving 2-0 victory over the African champions a place in the last eight.

They were the hungrier of the two teams as Dream Team without four of the players that defeated Japan and Sweden back-to-back on the pitch.

Nigeria’s four goals hero in the clash with Japan in the opening match, Oghenekaro Etebo forced out by injury and Dream Team finished the game with 10 players as they have exhausted their substitutions slot.

Earlier last night, London 2012 champions Mexico failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympic men’s football in Rio after losing 1-0 to South Korea.

Kwon Chang-hoon’s stunning strike secured the win for the Koreans, who finished top of Group C.
Argentina was also knocked out at the group stage after a 1-1 draw with Honduras, but Germany progressed after beating Fiji 10-0.

Hosts Brazil was playing Denmark as at press time.

The Brazilians, currently second in Group A on two points, have not even scored at the tournament following goalless draws with Iraq and Denmark.
Scoring was not a problem for Germany against Fiji.

SC Freiburg forward Nils Petersen hit five goals, Schalke midfielder Max Meyler grabbed a hat-trick and Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry scored twice as Germany finished second in Group C to set up a last-eight match with Portugal.

The Portuguese finished top of Group D after drawing 1-1 with Algeria in Belo Horizonte.
