The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, on Wednesday said that enforcement of the speed limiters on commercial vehicles operating in the country will commence on 1st October .
The disclosure was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Bisi Kazeem, the Commission’s Head of Media and Strategy, after a wide consultation at an all stakeholders meeting in Abuja.
Oyeyemi, according to the statement, commended the stakeholders for the support given to FRSC towards the actualization of the device aimed at reducing road accident on the highway.
He said: “FRSC commends all the stakeholders for the consistent support they have given to the policy of speed limiters usage in the country, without such support, it would have been difficult for the country to get to where it is today where enforcement date has been finally resolved.”
The FRSC boss also commended the management of Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), for their technical inputs into the policy, adding, that it was such collaboration that fast tracked the decision of other
stakeholders to buy in the policy.
The initial date for the commencement of the policy, according to the statement was June 2015, but had to be extended to accommodate more diverse inputs and also because it fell into President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration.
