After frustrated negotiations, Resident Doctors of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) have embarked on an indefinite strike to register their anger with the management.

The doctors under the umbrella of the National Association of Resident Doctors, UUTH branch downed tools weekend to protest alleged high level of insensitivity exhibited by the hospital management towards their welfare.

Briefing reporters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, on Sunday over the action, the President of the association, Dr Christian Adeneye, said the doctors are demanding, among other things, the payment of full salaries to all doctors in the health facility.

He stressed that the UUTH remains one of the three hospitals in the country that had refused to implement the rightful entry point and arrears accrued from same to all House Officers as directed by the Federal Ministry of Health and National Salaries and wages Commission.

Besides not adhering to directives, he equally complained that his members were over-taxed by the UUTH management compared to their counterparts in other federal health institutions.
