Military Strategizes on Holistic Approach to Ending Herdsmen/Farmers’ Clashes

The Defence Headquarters (DH) has said it is set to roll out a holistic approach aimed at ending the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country.

Speaking in a radio programme at the weekend in Abuja, the Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, said the military is currently appraising the situation and will soon put to an end the insecurity emanating from the frequent clashes between farmers and the herdsmen.

He said: “We are appraising the situation; the Defence Headquarters is strategizing and coming up with a very proactive and holistic approach to tackle the menace of herdsmen and farmers’ clashes especially those herdsmen that pose security threat to the country.

“And very soon, we are coming up with something very seriously to curb this menace and I believe that when we come on board, Nigerians will see it and appreciate what we are doing.”

According to him, putting a final end to the clashes requires strategic planning, adding however that it is not every herdsman that is criminally inclined.

Stressing further, he said: “We have to extremely put plans in place to ensure that all those areas that are prone to these attacks are properly taken care of once and for all.

“Additionally we have what is called operation accord is targeted to handle the issue of these herdsmen and this will soon be a thing of the past.”
