Total Group in Nigeria (TGN) has partnered with the Nigeria Business Coalition Against Aids (NiBUCCA) to launch the community HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria preventive education project in Asaba, Delta State.

Speaking during the launch in Asaba recently, the Acting Executive Secretary, NiBUCCA, Gbenga Alabi, stated that in developing countries, there is a growing involvement of the private sector in addressing HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (ATM) which are acclaimed to be the three great pandemics of in this era, “there is evidence-based information which attests to the fact that the methods adopted by the government in addressing the menace are yielding positive results especially in the state.”

He stated that the partnership with TGN has made this project possible and it is aimed at sustaining the achievements already made by the state Action Committee on AIDS.

Alabi further noted that studies have shown that there is inter-relatedness between HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (ATM), adding that this has prompted NiBUCAA to work closely with TGN to seek ways to address ATM pandemic in the workplace and also among its business host communities.

He added: “On the economy side of the bargain, it is a known fact that the private sector thrives basically on the economic wellbeing of consumers. A healthy consumer base therefore easily translates to healthy profits and vice versa. That is why the private sector cannot afford to look the other way when issues of health concerns of their consumers are on the table for discussion and action. This is a call to action and Total Group in Nigeria has taken the lead. We hereby enjoin other corporate entities to follow suit so that collectively we can build a better, healthier and stronger society for the benefit of all.”

He remarked that TGN has been unrelenting in its resolve to address the diseases, stressing that in recognition of its importance to the host communities, TGN has channeled huge resources through this Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative to enhance the quality of lives of its host communities.
