Abari Advocates Citizens-led Government

The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari, has advocated for a citizen-led government built on a transparent system which connects both the leaders and the led.

He noted that there can hardly be a connection between the government and the people, when there is lack of mutual trust.

Abari said while speaking to Thisday recently at an event lecture to mark the Mandela Day in Abuja, “Nigeria is a country of very young people. This is a huge asset which must be tapped into. It is an asset, which must form part of our national development objectives.”

According to him, “System of government where citizens  can connect and the government can reconnect back to the people is what we are doing presently.

“There can hardly be trust between the government and the people, where the government does not derive legitimacy from the citizens. Let the people have a sense that this is a government which we can reconnect and which the government can connect back to them”.

He stated that in a situation where the government is eliminated from the people and does not actually put in place popular citizens’ vote, then such a government does as he wishes and the citizens end up regarding them as being insensitive to their suffering and anguish”.
