The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday arrested a vulcanizer, Oluwatimileyin Okunnade, and three others for robbing motorists of their valuables on different occasions in traffic.

While 21-year-old Okunnade was arrested after he robbed a female motorist of her phones, the trio of 39-year-old Bola Adenuga, 32-year-old Kehinde Oladipupo and 27-year-old Afiz Sulaiman were arrested for robbing the spare parts of a heavy duty vehicle.

Okunnade, who said he ventured into robbery to raise money for food and graduation ceremony, was apprehended at Otedola Bridge, after snatching an Infinix Hot Note phone from a lady driving a white Sienna space bus.

In his confession, he said, “I went to Ojodu – Berger Bus Stop early in the morning to look for work. I was there till evening, yet there was no work. I decided to trek home. I got to Otedola Bridge, there was traffic and I realised that I had not eaten anything since morning.

“The thought of going to bed without food was scary to me, so I saw a lady holding an Infinix Hot Note phone and I snatched it from her. She was scared so she drove off, but I was surprised when RRS men chased and caught me few minutes later.”

While insisting that he was not a robber but a vulcanizer, Okunnade said, “What I was looking for was money to do my freedom ceremony. I have spent eight years with my boss, who told me openly to go and source for money for my graduation.”
