Impeachment: Allegations Against Governor Yari Baseless, Says Aide

A former aide to Governor Abdulhazeez Yari of Zamfara state, Alhaji Aminu Gusau, has described moves by the state House of Assembly to impeach the governor as a cheap blackmail, declaring that the allegations levelled against the governor were baseless and a calculated attempt by the lawmakers to achieve their selfish desires at the detriment of the masses.

Gusau, a former special adviser to the governor on job recruitment and quota system, in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna, maintained that Yari operates a transparent government since his assumption of office over five years ago.

“Without doubt, Governor Yari has taken governance to a pragmatic height that should be acknowledged by the House, but unfortunately, the reverse is the case, going by the orchestrated move to impeach the governor.

“Transparency in governance has been at its best in Zamfara State since the assumption of office of Yari’s administration which does not believe in backward movement, but planned and coordinated strategies aimed at progression to move Zamfara State forward” Gusau said.

He added that it was a known fact that “the country’s economy is in a bad shape, a situation that has affected all sectors, hence the need for any right thinking leader to adjust to suit the realities of the time”.

Gusau lamented that it was unfortunate that the State House of Assembly seems to have a contrary view of the economic situation, “as members of the House still want the ‘business as usual’ without considering the interest of the generality of the people.

According to him, the governor has been working assiduously to significantly enhance the capacity for internal revenue generation and the judicious use of scarce resources in order to achieve cost effective results by cutting down allocations to every arm or agency of government, including his office in view of the fact that Zamfara is among states with least federal allocation.
