Legislative Framework on Climate Change

The National Assembly has begun moves to put in place a legislative framework to address the multifarious issues relating to climate change in the country. Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Climate Change, Mr. Sam Onuigbo made this disclosure in Abuja Thursday at a meeting with a team of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) led by its Country Director, Dr. Pa Lamin Beyai. Mr. Onuigbo who commended the UNDP for its support to Nigeria on the issue of climate change, said the proposed legislative framework is top on the agenda of the National Assembly and that no effort is being spared to achieve the aim. According to him, the leadership of the federal legislature, especially the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara are fully committed in their support to ensuring that the framework is achieved in the life of the current 8th Assembly.
