We will Improve Power Supply Despite Challenges, Kaduna Electric

The chief compliance and regulatory officer of Kaduna Electric, Lawal Y. Lawal, has highlighted some of the challenges faced by the company which hampers its operations.

Lawal who was speaking at the company’ customer forum in Kaduna yesterday said some of the problems affecting the firm include delay in payment of tariff, assault on its staff, huge MDA debts, collusion with staff and quacks and by-passing of meters by customers.

He said Kaduna electric, which covers the four states of Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi, is meant to serve over 16 million people and no less than 2,223 households but has only 380,000 customers at the moment with eight area offices and 143 service centers.

The Managing Director of Kaduna Electric, Mr. Garba Haruna, who was represented by Head, Strategy, Dr. Mahmoud Suleiman, in a goodwill message thanked participants at the interactive session for coming and expressed hope that the firm will deliver better service to its customer.

Team Lead, customer service unit of Kaduna Electric, Sunday Yahaya, in his presentation to customers, said while the firm has a projected capacity of generating N3.2 billion monthly from customers, it is able to post only an average of N1.2 billion monthly so far.

He said this is because more than 30 percent of the product, due to technical reasons, is lost in the process of getting it to consumers while more revenue is lost in the process of collecting tariff.
He said the firm is faced with a situation where many who are not its customers are consuming its products due to connivance with some consumers.
