Aisha Buhari Launches Project to Tackle Malnutrition, Calls for Support

Worried by the high death rate of malnourished children in the country, the wife of the president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has launched a quick interventionist programme named “Get Involved” to prevent annual death of thousands of malnourished Nigerian children.

The programme, she launched yesterday at the State House, is a major component of her “Future Assured” pet project which encompasses healthcare delivery, education and other facets of lives of Nigerian women and children.

Announcing the take-off of ‘Get Involved’, Buhari called for the active participation and support of a broad spectrum of Nigerians and organisations, especially the organised private sector, development partners, relevant united nation agencies and non governmental organisations.

She explained that with the participation of these bodies, the new initiative will help to combat the alarming endemic problem of malnutrition of children at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the country.

Relying on the UNICEF Scary Statistics of 2.5 million malnourished Nigeria Children and annual death of 500,00 of such children, Buhari said the situation was highly unacceptable and must be reversed.
She therefore appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to rise up to the challenge and support the programme in order to eradicate completely this ugly trend.
