Worried by the dwindling income of government and the huge amount of money being expended monthly on payment of workers’ wages and other salary-related commitments at the expense of so many vital areas that need development, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State has announced his intention to engage all stakeholders with a view to coming up with practical solutions to the challenge.

The governor who stated this while swearing in new permanent secretaries in Bauchi on Wednesday, urged them to provide guidance and direction on the general application of government policies and interpretation of regulations affecting the service.

In addition to being the accounting officers, the permanent secretaries are also the arrowheads of their respective ministries, departments and agencies.

He therefore reiterated his administration’s resolve to introduce sanity and discipline in the civil service and in the management of state resources, stressing that the administration was committed to repositioning the civil service through the appointment of officers purely based on merit and rewarding officers who are adjudged to be competent, dedicated and loyal in all their years in the service.
