The attitude of Governor Simon Lalong of going cap-in-hand to beg President Mohammed Buhari over the grazing reserve policy has been condemned by Plateau citizens who have warned him to stop being beggarly to the Presidency over their God-given land.
The Governor had last week allegedly gone to appeal to the President over the protests against the grazing reserve policy by Plateau people, blaming the Senator representing Plateau North, Jonah David Jang as the mastermind of the protests
But a statement by Plateau Vanguard for Positive Change, signed by Honourable Ashoms Musa has condemned the attitude of the Governor, urging him to toe the path of caution, adding “if the Lalong administration failed to consult the people and the alarm raised by Sen. Jang forces him to rescind his earlier decision and contrive a seeming stakeholder consultation, how is it Sen. Jang’s fault?”
The group said, “As concerned Plateau citizens, we are pained that the Governor who is the father of the state as it stands today, has decided to embark on a journey that does not augur well for the state or its citizens. We have seen how the government of the day without recourse to the people had keyed into a policy that seeks to negate the very achievement the government claims as its highpoint. We are therefore constrained to ask in whose interest the state government is pursuing policies that are detrimental to the wellbeing of the very people it claims to cater for.
“We note with dismay certain comments attributed to the Governor in recent times where he has insulted the Plateau people referring to them as being hungry and only resisting the government for that reason. Little wonder why the Federal Government has not taken Plateau people seriously, as is reflected in the complete neglect of Plateau indigenes even in appointments where every state was entitled to a slot.”
