Two rival cult groups on Wednesday night engaged in a free-for-all at Ajegunle in Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, killing two persons.

The opposing factions were said to have attacked themselves at the Ojo Road area, and used the opportunity to rob several residents of their valuables, including money and mobile phones.

THISDAY gathered that those robbed were some of the residents returning home from where they had gone to mark the just-celebrated Sallah festival.

According to an eyewitness account, one of the deceased persons was rushing home from work to celebrate the Sallah with his family when the hoodlums attacked him on Ojo road about 10.pm, killing him on the spot.

Emiloju Masorire, a resident, said the victims were attacking anybody on sight on the road, adding: “These people are not serious. Some of the residents in the area are the parents of these crop of cultists and the jail term for cultism is lesser than that of a real criminal.”

One of the victims who was dispossessed of jewelry and cash, Mrs. Angela John, said, “The hoodlums dispossessed me of N 120, 000, jewelry and two mobile phones. There was nothing I could do than to surrender the phones to them.

“Police should help us curb the menace of these cultists and auto robbers who usually operate on their motorcycles.

“These hoodlums were at Ojo Road, at Okoya Street, fighting, injuring people and robbing before policemen from Ajegunle police station arrived the scene.

“They escaped on hearing the sound of police siren by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ajegunle police station who left the station with truckload of policemen to chase the hoodlums.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, said they are already after the hoodlums with a view of arresting them.
