In a display of uncommon kindness, some former players of defunct Udoji United FC, have come together to offer support for the families of their colleagues and coach at the Awka.

A novelty match to raise funds for these families has been scheduled for July 30 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Former Udoji United stars are scheduled to face Enugu-based ex-internationals in the novelty game.

United States of America-based ex Udoji forward, Ikem ‘Potential’ Udeh, along with Dele Bob-Manuel and Robert ‘Hagler’ Iweha who addressed the media in Lagos at the weekend, expressed their desire to ensure success for the reunion aimed at putting smiles on the faces of their departed colleagues and coach.

“We have lost such illustrious colleagues as Coach Willy Bazuaye, Charles ‘Charlie Parker’ Nduka, Kalu Umah, Herbert Anijekwu and trainer, Eddie Anyaegbulam. I have spoken to late Herbert Anijekwu’s wife and she expressed her happiness that at last some people want to look into her situation.

“I have spoken to the owners of the club, Oscar and Goddy Udoji, and they are well disposed to the idea of a reunion of ex-Udoji players,” observed Udeh who also revealed some other ex-Udoji to be behind the project to also include Raphael Chukwu Ndukwe, Precious Monye and Ifeanyi Aghenu. Jude Agada is also in on the project.

“Before anything, we want to thank Oscar Udoji for giving us the platform to become what we are today. He is the head of the Udoji United family and we, as members, are grateful to him.”

Udeh also admitted that the project is not only about giving support to the families of the deceased but also help others who have quit football without any quality life.

“We will also help some of our members secure jobs so that they can take care of their families,” he emphasized.

A planning committee for the projected is headed by a former Nitel Vasco of Enugu Team Manager and Nollywood star, Diewatt Ikpechukwu. Also in the committee is former international, Emma Okocha, Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, Ofor Okenwa, Coach John Obuh, Akonam Obiefuna, Norbert Okolie and Ikem Udeh.
