The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) has called on Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State to intervene over a court verdict of Friday, which ordered them to vacate an IDPs camp set up on the land belonging to a government Agency to designated government camps.
The spokesman of the displaced persons living at the labour camp, Sulaiman Sanusi said they cannot go back to their villages due to attacks by Boko Haram.
“If Cameroon and Niger could host Nigerian refugees, why should a government agency seek to remove us from this place. Our villages are not yet safe. There were attacks in recent weeks in which dozens of villagers were killed.”
He said they are waiting for the military to finally clear the insurgents so that they can return to their homes. “Most of us are from Gwoza Town in Bornu State and Madagali Town of Adamawa State.”
Sanusi said their stay was temporal and that they are already used to living with their wives under one roof adding that by the time they are forced to return to government designated camps, they will be separated from their wives
“Our wives will be living in female hotels while the men will be living in Male hotels in the government designated camps. We are not used to this type of restrictions,” he said
However, the Rent Tribunal seating had asked hundreds of internally displaced persons to vacate a camp set up on a land belonging to a government agency.
The Tribunal chairman, Barrister Hambarka Sambo ordered hundreds of displaced persons to vacate the Labour Camp in Yola and move to designated government camps.
