The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, on Friday deployed the Force Tactical Operation Unit (TOU), which comprises the Police Mobile Force and the Counter-Terrorism Unit with the back-up of an air surveillance team to flush out pipeline vandals and other notorious criminals in Arepo and Ibafo axis of Ogun and Lagos States.

In a statement made available to THISDAY in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, DCP Donald Awunah, said the deployment of the combined squad to the troubled zone is to ensure that normalcy returns in record time.

According to the statement, the Acting IGP said the Nigeria Police Force will not watch any criminal group or groups take the law into their hands, adding that that is what necessitated the authorization of the units to deal decisively with anyone who constitutes himself an enemy of the state.

Meanwhile, the Police boss has asked fleeing law-abiding citizens of the area to return home and go about their normal businesses.

The statement added: “It would be recalled that Arepo and Ibafor in Ogun State have for sometimes now been in the news for the wrong reasons due to anti-social behaviours of miscreants.

“In another development, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested one Aloysius Ebiniko, said to be the kingpin of the armed gang that abducted and murdered Col. Samaila Inusa on March 27, 2016 in Kaduna, Kaduna State.

“The arrest of Aloysius Ebiniko was made possible as a result of a credible technical intelligence employed by the Police after a confessional statement of a member of the gang earlier arrested.”
