Tenure of Chairman, A’Ibom Traditional Rulers’ Council Elongated

With effect from September 23rd, 2016, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers’ Council will be enjoying two years in office against the one year that had been in existence.

This is as a result of the passage into law of the State House of Assembly of the bill amending section 45(2) of the Traditional Rulers law 2000 to allow for a two year tenure elongation of the chairman Traditional Rulers Council

Passed on Tuesday, the law , now known as Traditional Rulers Amendment Law 2016, is expected to commence in retrospect from September 23, 2015, ‎ to accommodate the current chairman of the traditional rulers’ council of chiefs.

The current chairman of the state traditional rulers’ council was sworn into office on September 23, 2015, and his tenure would have ended on September 23, 2016; but with the amended law, it is now expected to elapse on September 23, 2017.
