- Says detention camps should be open to public scrutiny on health grounds

The Federal Government has been urged to quickly address cases of human rights abuse and violations by the security agencies saddled with the responsibility of internal military operations and the fight against corruption in the country.
The plea was made on Wednesday in Abuja at the annual human rights lecture organised by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), with the theme, “Freedom of Speech Versus Anti-graft War: Any Nexus?”
The National Coordinator, HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, while speaking to newsmen shortly before the commencement of the programme, urged the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, check the excesses of the members of the armed forces in the ways they carry out their internal military operations.
According to him, “We are concerned about the cases and allegations of human rights violations that are being carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the fight against corruption.”
