Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Wednesday swore in the state’s immediate past Chief Justice, Justice Ayotunde Philips, as the Chairperson of the State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), thus promising not to interfere in the internal affairs of the electoral umpire.

Alongside the chairperson, Ambode also swore in other members of the commission – Dr. Bunmi Omosehinde, Mr. Lateef Raji, Mrs Toyin Famakinwa, Mr Olusegun Ayedun and Mr. Olumide Lawal, who he said, would serve as the Permanent Secretary.

He performed the swearing-in at Lagos House, Ikeja, where he charged the commission “to live above board and be fair to all in the discharge of their duties.”

He said the new chairman and other members were carefully selected based on their track record of meritorious service and unquestionable integrity, hence they must be transparent and fair to all without giving undue advantage to one party over another.

He said his administration places high premium on the rule of law, and vowed that he would not do anything to directly or indirectly interfere in the affairs of the commission.
