The Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, has warned against using religion as a guise to violate the law .

Speaking against the backdrop of the recent crisis that occurred in Osun State as a result of the wearing of hijab by Muslims female students in public schools, Ambali who blamed the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Osun state chapter, for the religious crisis in the state, which attracted nationwide attention.

He said they did this by resorting to “self help”and instigating students of Iwo Baptist High School to wear choir attires to school to counter the Muslim students who wear hijab as a result of a court judgement.

He said that rather than indulging in such act, the CAN should have approached the Appeal Court to challange the ruling of the state high court that ruled in favour of using hijab by female students of public schools in the state.

According to him,”‎Rather than appeal the judgement and use the law, the Christian Association of Nigeria (Osun state chapter) resorted to self help by saying Muslim girls cannot wear hijab in public/christian schools. CAN directed pupils to go to school in their choir gowns and thereby violated the approved school uniforms.”
