A Niger Delta activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, reacted angrily to the appointment of the new Acting Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Ibrahim Kpotun Idris by President Muhammadu Buhari, saying security apparatus has been compromised to favour a region of the country.

Mulade said the latest appointment was an indication that President Buhari is playing a northern script wondering why 95 per cent of security chiefs were from that region.
He congratulated the new acting IG on the appointment but insisted that there were more qualified officers from other regions that can occupy same position.

“It is not in the interest of the nation for all the security chiefs to come from a section of the country with diverse ethnic groups like Nigeria. Once that is compromised then the nation is doomed”, he added.
Mulade urged President Buhari to always reflect even representations in future appointments and make effort to correct the imbalance in the present composition of his aides.

“We love the president and want him to succeed but he needs to address the lopsidedness in his appointments so far which favours the North more than the South. He needs to do something because many Nigerians are loosing faith in him over these appointments,” he added.
Against the backdrop of the bombings of pipelines by militants, the right activist urged the president to step up efforts at diversifying the economy.

He noted that the over reliance on crude oil for foreign exchange earnings was not doing the country much good following the drop in oil price and the renewed insurgency in the Niger Delta, the hub of crude production.

According to Mulade, who is also the Coordinator of Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Nigeria has the richest agricultural resource in Africa and as such has no justification whatsoever to continue to import food.
He expressed dismay about the current food hike and scarcity in the country and advised government to formulate deliberate policies to encourage agro-allied industries to create jobs for our teeming youths and strengthens capacity.
