Police Arrest Chinese Businessman, Accomplice for Attempted Assassination

By Chiemelie Ezeobi

The Lagos State Police Command at the weekend arrested a Chinese businessman, one Sun Ku and his accomplice, Chika Eze, a Nigerian, for  allegedly plotting to assassinate his business associate because of some financial misunderstanding.

Ku, who was paraded at the police command headquarters at Ikeja, was said to have contracted the assassination to Eze at the cost of N1.4 million.

Eze in turn sub-contracted the job to two other persons to execute.

Following a tip-off to the police by one of those contracted, detectives swooped in and first arrested Eze on Lagos Island before rounding up all the other parties based on Eze’s confession.

Preliminary investigations also revealed that Eze had already paid two of the assassins N400,000 as part-payment before they were arrested in the room where they were taking a blood oath of secrecy.

Although he initially refused to speak to journalists, Ku who later opened up, said the money was not to kill his business associate, but rather for charms to be prepared for him.

He said, “I deal with footwears and this man (his victim) bought some from him. I did business with him many years ago. In fact, in 2011, I called the police to arrest him but he ran away.

“He was owing me about N4 million. Later he took me to court but I was away in China. I came back to hear that the court judgement was that I owe him money. It’s not true. He is the one that owes me money.

“He kept on telling people that he will kill me. Since I didn’t want him to kill me, I contacted Eze and told him to tell me the way out. The plan was to use charms and not to kill him.”
