The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr. John-Gaul Lebo, has stated that he has not committed any offence to warrant his impeachment by his colleagues.

He stated this in reaction to alleged moves by some members of the House to impeach him following the neglect of their welfare one year after they were inaugurated as members of the state legislature.

At the moment, there are fears that the House has been thrown into a serious crisis as some members have allegedly commenced impeachment moves against Lebo.

The Speaker’s reaction is coming after he announced the dissolution of some of the House committees, and also disclosed that the lawmakers had embarked on recess until July 14, this year.

Reacting to reports of the alleged impeachment plot through a press statement circulated by his chief press secretary, Azogor Ideba, the Speaker said there was no cause for alarm as he has not committed any offence that could lead to his impeachment.

In the press statement sighted on Sunday by THISDAY, the Speaker admitted that there were discordant tunes among the lawmakers due to outsanding issues concerning their welfare. Describing the complaints of his colleagues as genuine, he stated that their clamour does not amount to impeachment threat against him.
