2017 AYC: Glo Salutes Flying Eagles

Nigeria’s biggest corporate supporter of football, Globacom, has congratulated the Flying Eagles on their victory over Burundi and subsequent qualification for the next round of the 2017 African Youth Championship qualifiers.
The Flying Eagles defeated hard-fighting Burundi Under-20 team 2-1 in the second leg encounter played at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Saturday.
The team which won the first leg played in Burundi a fortnight ago by a lone goal thus qualified for the next round on 3 – 1 goals aggregate.
Wolfsburg of Germany player, Victor Osimhen, scored the first goal in the 70th minute from the penalty kick resulting from an infringement on Samuel Chukwueze in Burundi’s goal area.
Captain Kelechi Nwakali sealed the victory in the 83rd through a well taken free kick.
The visitors however recorded a consolation goal towards the end of the match.
While commending the team for the victory, Globacom urged them to work assiduously towards qualifying for the tournament proper.
“The Flying Eagles should leave no stone unturned as they work toward qualifying for the 2017 African Youth Championship.  We urge the technical crew to ensure that the team emerges victorious in the next round, and thus consolidate the team’s position as the number one U-20 team in Africa,” observed the Globacom statement.
The next African U-20 Youth Championship comes up in Zambia in 2017.
